Irritable Bowel Diet List


Soluble foods should make up an important part of your irritable bowel diet. They will help soothe the digestive tract as well as help bring bowel functions under control, whether it is diarrhea or constipation.

Before you eat anything else on an empty stomach, always start with a soluble food. Don't give your body something hard to digest to start off with.

Here's a list of some good soluble foods to start you off with:

  • Rice (cereals too)
  • Pasta
  • Barley
  • Oats
  • White breads with good nutritional quality
  • Soy
  • Cornmeal
  • Potatoes
  • Flour tortillas
  • Carrots
  • Beets
  • Bananas
  • Yams
  • Papaya
This is not a complete list, but has some variety to get you started with. These foods will help coat your stomach and pave the way to soothing any digestive upsets.

Don't forget to watch out for the trigger foods you want to avoid, like: high fat foods, alcohol, caffeine, carbonated foods and milk products.
